Family of the Month 2/20

Knights of Columbus Council 10961 February 2020 Family of the Month

Sir Knight Frank Schaffer Family

It is with great honor to recognize the family of Brother Sir Knight Frank Schaffer as the Nativity of Our Lord Family of the Month for January 2020.

Frank was born Nov. 1, 1966 in Lancaster, PA and graduated from Bloomsburg University of PA. Frank is employed as the Problem Manager and Scrum Master at National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, CO. Frank has been happily married to Cathy Carda Schaffer of Hermosa, SD for 25 years, and they have three children: Casey, Jessie and Cody. The Schaffer’s have been attending Nativity of Our Lord since they moved to Westminster, CO from Houston, TX in the early 90’s. The entire Schaffer family has and continues to be very active members of Nativity, their school and community since moving into the area.

8-year-old Cody attends Jefferson Academy Elementary School. He is a Bear in the Cub Scout Pack 500. Cody performs services like handing out Tootsie Rolls for the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, collecting food for the Boy Scout Food Drive, doing street cleanups with scouts and playing chimes with Sacred Heart of Mary’s bell choir. While one of his favorite aspects of Nativity might be eating donuts after Mass, he is very excited about receiving his First Communion and Confirmation in April.

14-year-old Jessie attends Jefferson Academy Middle School. While juggling school, drama club and club volleyball, Jessie still manages to be very active in her school’s government and Nativity’s American Heritage Girl Scout Troop. Jessie loves and is active with Nativity’s middle school program Venturers of the Stars. Jessie also helps with the Tootsie Roll Drive, rolling burritos with the Knights and altar server at Nativity.

18-year-old Casey is a senior at Jefferson Academy High School. While juggling school, drama club and work, Casey still finds time to help in the community. As an Eagle Scout from Troop 385, he helps with numerous Troop service projects, most recently cleaning bikes for Boulder’s Share-A-Gift program providing gifts for families in need. And yes, Casey can be seen handing out Tootsie Rolls every year. Casey’s passion is theatre and film and is actively in search for the right university to start in the fall.

Cathy is the true blessing of the Schaffer family. As if running a household isn’t enough, Cathy works two jobs she loves; she’s an educational assistant in the 4th grade at Jefferson Academy and Executive Assistant to Fr. Accu at Nativity. Cathy has taught religious education at Nativity for 12 years, the Den Leader for Cody’s Cub Scout Pack, service coordinator for the American Heritage Girls and store captain for the Tootsie Roll Drive.

Frank is a member of Council 10961 and Charter Member of St. Charles Borromeo Assembly 3709. Frank previously served, as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 385, is coordinator of the Troops annual food drive and Scouts support of the Boulder Share-A-Gift program and service coordinator of Cody’s Cub Scout Pack. Frank still finds to serve, now in his 5th year as Council 10961 Tootsie Roll Drive coordinator that annually raise in excess of $5,000.

The Schaffer family participates in an annual pilgrimage and dedicates time to Perpetual Adoration. They are also committed to family prayer time, which is at the core of their very active contribution to our church and community, which exemplifies the Knights of Columbus.
