Knight of the Month 3/20

SK John W. Geddes

Sir Knight John Geddes born in Denver, CO in 1949 and raised in Arvada, CO, John graduated In 1973 from the University of Colorado with a Pharmaceutical Degree. He immediately worked as a pharmacist at his father’s drug store in Lakewood and Evergreen. In November of ’73, he married his wife of 46 years, Gail Naaden of Braddock, ND. John and Gail are proud parents of six children, twenty-one grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

After John’s father sold his family-owned drug store, he worked for a national pharmacy chain. In 1978, John relocated and purchased a family-owned drug store in Lamar, CO. Shortly after settling in Lamar, John joined K of C Council 3325 and is an Insured Life Member of 42 years in our Order. As a council member of 3325, John moved up the chairs to become the Grand Knight. In 2000 as the GK, John was responsible for Council 3325 hosting one of the last State Conventions to be hosted by a council prior to the State Council assuming responsibility for all of the state meetings.

After selling his store in Lamar to Safeway in ’97, John worked for Safeway until moving in 2004 to Eagle, CO to work as a pharmacist for Columbine Market. John transferred his membership to St. Claire of Assisi Council 13253, in Eagle and is also a charter member of Msgr. Thomas R. Dentici Assembly 3619 in Glenwood Springs. While a member of Council 13253 he served as the Financial Secretary for ten years prior to moving to Broomfield, CO in 2017, John immediately transferred to Council 10961 and is a very active member with all council activities and currently serves as the Council Warden. John officially retired in 2015 as a full-time pharmacist but continues to keep his license current and fills in at the Costco when needed.

In addition to all of his service to the K of C while raising a family, John found time to serve his community as a member of the Lamar Utilities Board, Lamar Chamber of Commerce and served two terms on the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy. John also served the Church as EMHC, an usher and was on the Parish Council of St. Francis De Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lamar while the parish was building a new church.

Biking, hiking, camping and skiing are activities the entire family enjoyed recreationally together.

John exemplifies how a man can successfully raise a family and serve the Church and his community with endless energy. It is with great honor to acknowledge SK John Geddes as the Knight of the Month for March 2020. His name will be submitted to the State Council for consideration as the Colorado State Knight of the Month for March 2020.
