Knights of Columbus Council 10961 November 2019 Knight of the Month
Sir Knight Leo Armenta
Leo joined the Knights of Columbus to serve the Church and to help make a difference in his community as well as making lasting friendships and to capitalize on the fraternal benefit programs the Knights of Columbus provide it’s membership.
Leo made his 1st & 2nd Degrees in February of 1984, his 3rd Degree in April of ’84 and his 4th Degree in February of 1985. Leo is an Insured Member in Good Standing for 34 years and is an Honorary Life Member.
Leo has served our Order as a Council Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Trustee, Warden and Inside Guard and has also served our Order as Assembly Color Corps Commander, Trustee and Inner Sentinel and is a Charter Member of St. Charles Borromeo Assembly 3709 in Broomfield, CO.
Leo,throughout his membership as a Knight,has served on various committees helping with Tootsie Roll Drives, Pancake Breakfast, Burrito-making and sales, driving patrons from assisted living facilities to Sunday Mass, and for the past several years, picking up two widows who can no longerdrive and bringing them to daily and Sunday Mass. Leo has also served the assembly as the Veterans Committee Director collecting and delivering used glasses to the VA Hospital,and recently was instrumental in helping the State Patriotic Degree collect over $10,000.00 for the sacred statuary in the Catholic Chapel at the new VA Hospital in Aurora, CO.
Leo is a Viet Nam Navy Veteran Gunners Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer who served aboard the USS Porterfield in Viet Namas the Mount Captain on a 5”/38 Gun Mount. Leo’s hobbies include hunting, fishing and enjoying his grandchildren,along withspending quality time with his wife Lorene as well caregivingfor his siblings who are in poor health.
Leo moved to Broomfield 18 years ago and immediately became an active member of Nativity of Our Lord and transferred his Knight membership to Council 10961.I
