Knights of Columbus Council 10961 December 2019 Knight of the Month
Brother Knight Ron Begier
Ron joined the Knights of Columbus in March of 1961 while attending college at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD. Ron was an active member of the Knights until he graduated from college.
Ron worked in the aerospace industry, and the highlight of his career was helping to land a man on the moon. After a series of job transfers, he ultimately moved his family to Broomfield, CO in 1969. Ron became the Charter Grand Knight of Nativity of Our Lord Council 6257 in 1970. As the population grew in this area, Council 6257 changed to Our Lady of Service Council and served the northwest Denver - Boulder area, which became the root for Nativity of Our Lord Council 10961, chartered in October of 1992.
Ron was born in Salamanca, NY in March of 1934, joined the USAF in 1951, and is a Korean War Veteran. Before his honorable discharge in 1955, he married Rosemary, his wife of 65 yeas in November 1954; now in their retirement years they enjoy their 9 children, 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The Begiers have been faithful members of Nativity of Our Lord parish since moving here in 1969. Ron is a member in good standing of Council 10961 and was a former insured member. Raising 9 children and providing for his family limited his ability to faithfully serve in any officer positions in Council 10961, but he assisted and continues to assist with council projects as best he can. In 1972 he briefly served as the K of C State Respect Life Coordinator. For over twenty-five years, Ron has served as an usher at Nativity of Our Lord, and you could always see Ron proudly wearing his Knights of Columbus vest, indirectly promoting membership into the Order. Ron was very pro-active in recruiting members both in the original 6257 Charter Council and continues today in Council 10961 by demonstrating his passion for the Knights.
Raising a large family limited his hobbies to being an avid fan and follower of the Denver pro sports teams when he wasn’t busy taking care of this family.
Ron is a devout Catholic man who is a daily communicant who loves the Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
It’s with great honor to acknowledge Brother Knight Ron Begier as the Knight of the Month of Council 10961. His name will be submitted to the State Council for consideration as the Colorado State Knight of the Month for December 2019.
